History

Located just a stone's throw away from the castle in uphill Lincoln, our Stokes Cafe, is housed within what was once the cookhouse of the former 'Lincoln Lunatic Asylum'.

Our 60-seater restaurant at our Stokes cafe located in the Lawn, Lincoln, has been refurbished in the most eco-friendly way. With the help of the finest crafts people in the area, we have carefully restored, reused and up cycled a multitude of items found at the site. We re-upholstered the sofas and chairs with our coffee sacks, uplifted and relaid the original floorboards from the main dance hall which is now The Blue Room, and even took the old theatre spotlights and re-designed them.

Once we added the scaffolding boards, poles and pallets along with some amazing decor, we decided, with our eco ethos, to commission a life-size killer whale. Yes, life size! Lulu as she is known, is made from old car bumpers and coffee machine parts and suspended from the rafters. She is our friendly whale and will no doubt be pleased to greet you when you visit our Lawn Café.

For the coffee lovers, we also created a fantastic viewing area so that you can see right into our roastery in our Stokes Cafe at the Lawn Lincoln. Watch our master roasters at work, smell the delicious coffee roasting away and enjoy a cup of the finished product while you do!

On the menu, you'll find a selection of delicious dishes and treats made with the finest, locally sourced, produce including traditional breakfasts, elegant light bites, afternoon and cream teas (subject to availability), seasonal specials and hearty main meals.  All served with our famous fine teas and fresh roasted coffees.

Our Lawn Café can take bookings for Afternoon Tea and private events on request. (Subject to availability)
