Bom Jesus
What I'm buying
Origin: Brazil
Altitude: 1200
Varietal: Catuai
Notes of: Apple/Black Cherry/Dark Chocolate
Bom Jesus is a Rainforest Alliance certified, natural processed lot that represents all the best qualities from specialty Brazilian coffee. Rich and sweet, with light apple notes giving way to boozy cherry and dark chocolate.
Bom Jesus is also Stokes’ first foray into direct trade. We purchase the coffee straight from Calum Maciel Brough, who’s family owns a number of farms in Brazil. This means the supply chain is drastically shortened, with less exporters, importers and other middle men taking a cut along the way. Because of this, the farms receive a much greater percentage of the profits, which means the owners and workers all get paid more.
More info about the coffee farm
Fazenda Bom Jesus coffee farm itself is the work of the couple Gabriel and Flavia Lancha Oliveira. With a long heritage in coffee culture both are grandchildren of coffee producers. They themselves passed their love and care on to their sons, Lucas and Gabriel junior who are also dedicated full-time to the farm. In 1984 they formed The Labareda Group, diversifying into various rural activities although coffee is still the most foremost in family hearts and indeed remains their main crop.
