The Lawn Café Lincoln
Located in uphill Lincoln, Stokes Lawn Cafe is housed within what was the cookhouse of the former 'Lincoln Lunatic Asylum'.
Originally built in 1819, the former hospital for mental health was extended in Victorian times and the café is where all of the food was prepared for the doctors and staff as well as the patients.
Our 60 seater restaurant was refurbished with the environment in mind and we have carefully restored, reused and upcycled anything and everything we found on the site using the best artisans and craftsmen in the City. We re-upholstered the sofas and chairs using our own coffee sacks, uplifted each and every floorboard from the main dance hall and re-laid them and we even took apart the old theatre spotlights and re-designed them.
Once we added the scaffolding boards, poles and pallets along with some amazing wallpaper we decided, as a nod to our eco ethos, to commission a life size killer whale made from old car bumpers and coffee machine parts and suspend it from the rafters. If you look carefully, you can find some information on this whale, known as Lulu.
We also created a viewing gallery so that people can watch the coffee roasting and production process take place right in the heart of our roastery - all whilst enjoying a cup of that very coffee.
On the menu, visitors will find a selection of locally sourced, high quality dishes from traditional breakfasts to cream teas, seasonal specials and delicious main meals. All served with our famous teas and coffees.
Stokes Lawn Café can take bookings for Afternoon Tea and private events on request.
