Over a Century of Coffee Roasting Heritage

Our story began in 1902 when Robert William Stokes arrived in Lincoln as a grocer and then evolved his business into sourcing the finest tea and coffee. Four generations later, Stokes is now one of the most trusted coffee roasters in Lincolnshire. While our methods have incorporated modern precision, our core commitment to good coffee remains unchanged.

Our Roasting Process

Good coffee requires exact science. Every time we roast coffee, it goes through a controlled process and is quality controlled to ensure our customers are getting the very best.

Ethical sourcing: we source our green coffee from companies who are committed to full traceability and long-standing relationships with farmers.

Roasting: All our coffee is roasted using our eco-friendly Loring S35 Roaster, which uses up to 80% less energy than standard roasters.

Quality Control & Cupping: Every single roast goes through careful quality control, and we hold regular cupping sessions to ensure consistency.

Packing: Our beans are then hand packed and sealed into airtight bags to preserve their flavour.

Sustainability 

Sustainability is part of everything we do; (check out our values!) we care about doing things responsibly and as a B Corp-certified business, we are committed to high standards.

Over 7 years ago we introduced a scheme known as Zero Waste which cuts down on packaging by delivering our coffee and tea to customers in re-useable buckets. Last year, we sent out nearly 7,500 buckets to customers, saving just over 3,500 cardboard boxes. Each week in our roastery, we save on average 760 individual bags, 10.5kg / 250 metres of packaging and around 40 cardboard boxes.
